Horrible app. I am ready to cancel my subscription. I have to email customer support each month to download.
Horrible app. I am ready to cancel my subscription. I have to email customer support each month to download.
This app used to work fine but September was the last month I was allowed to read the mag. It will not populate my library any longer so I was not able to enjoy October and now November and I am about to request a refund it happens on both my iPhone and iPad which has the newest versions and I redownload the app simply crap.
Unless you’re connected to the internet it requires you to “sign in”, which of course you can’t do when flying internationally. Their tech “support” dept is worthless.
( I used to have every single copy printed) but this is almost as good. And it is a lot handier because I always have my phone with me. Nice job guys and gals! JohnWD3
Have an iCloud based subscription but yet any current magazines are not available for download. Very frustrating. Have tried restoring purchases several times, no joy.
It seems to require an internet connection, even if I load the issue before takeoff.
Constantly logging me out and then I can’t find any of my issues.
Works fine on my fourth generation Air and fifth generation mini. Can’t get it working on this third generation Wi-Fi only Air though.
Please fix or give me a refund for the past year
This has been going on for YEARS now. Fix the app, please.
The latest Macworld update breaks the app if you’re trying to read in PDF page format (it’s just a blank screen) and the full-article text for,at sometimes leaves out whole articles. Please fix this! Oh, to have the old magazine back.
I agree with the others that this app and the corresponding app on PC World your sister publication are horrible!!! The videos don’t work at times. I have bought new iPads thinking it was my technology but, alas it is yours! I also have a digital subscription with consumer reports and their app is wonderful!! You should look at theirs!
I am subscribed until February 2022 and can’t access issues beyond December 2020. I’ve read and followed the instructions. Support is useless. They tell me to sync my library and there is no such option.
Despite being subscribed until October of ‘21, I cannot seem to open recent issues without being asked to subscribe,😡😡😡 I did restart my iPad and still ...
Please refund purchase price. No issue was made available— an account is requested with a password — which does not seem to relate to anything. Second or third bad experience with trying to subscribe to Macworld
Basically I’ve enjoyed this mag for decades and the switch from Zinnio was an improvement. But I can’t find out when my subscription expires, either here or on the website.
I was a MacWorld subscriber for many years until it went digital. I like printed magazines. I’m not such a tech nerd that EVERYTHING in my life has to be digital. I could read the printed magazine here, there, and everywhere without the need for a wi-fi connection, or an AC outlet with which to charge my reading device. After reading all of the recent reviews, the digital edition is apparently still lacking and it does not provide a reliable reading experience. You know, during the many years that I was a print edition subscriber, I never had a single problem with reading my printed MacWorld magazine. Translation: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. At the least, provide both the digital AND print editions again.
Anytime you try to open a magazine to download it crashes the app.
I purchased a subscription and couldn’t even download the magazine! Tried to click on app support and the website said it had moved and wasn’t available! Good luck getting ahold of anyone at the company that owns Macworld. Good thing I had whiskey left at my bar...or you would get one star!
Update: latest update crashes constantly. Works on my XS max on 13.2.3, but not on my iPad mini running 13.3...keeps giving me an error when I try to access my issues.
I just subscribed to Macworld on an iPad Pro 11 running iOS 13.3 and the app keeps crashing. How do I get a refund?
I got a App Store subscription in Feb. 2019, and for the first few months, the app worked and I enjoyed the publication (I went digital after having a print subscription for a decade, at first it was through Zinio, but that was an exercise in frustration). A few months ago, the Macworld magazine logged me out, and the “Restore Subscription” button did nothing (other than telling me that my purchase was being restored — but it never happens). I figured it was a temporary glitch, and tried again a week later. It has been several months, and the damned thing has never worked. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, and it still fails. I’ve tried the “App Support” link as seen in the App Store, and that doesn’t work (“This page is no longer available”). I used to be big fan of this magazine, but this experience has me planning to terminate my subscription before it renews. The end of a long relationship. I’m sure the editorial staff is still top notch, but whatever outfit they’ve gotten into bed with on the digital subscription side is totally bottom of the barrel. What a shame.
Subscribed for a year. Spent a day trying to download and troubleshoot...no luck. Finally I just asked Apple to issue me a refund.
Downloading, restoring and even viewing the magazine on this app is not what it should be.
App simply stopped working. A long-time subscriber, with the June update it became impossible to access the content I paid for. Followed all instructions, but couldn’t get magazines to download. A tech magazine should be able to manage this.
I want to read off-line. This app doesn’t support that. Signing in to the Zinio version after many years required back and forth to customer service. They were helpful but that is no reason to make you log into. New version so exceedingly difficult. All news apps except this permit you to return to the page where you left. Here you either remember to bookmark or page back to the page. Content has deteriorated over the years, now the publisher seems more interested in making a quick buck from any sale rather than sticking to the quality reporting MacWorld and MacUser were famous for.
After much frustration with the ongoing app issues that ZINIO and Macworld have, I deleted the app I currently had and re-downloaded the Macworld app again. No idea if it was the same version or what. After contacting ZINIO, Jane from ZINIO sent an email with this info: go to Account, Preferences, Sync Your Library, Sync Now. And of course sign in first. Happy to say it worked although they only gave up 10 back issues. Still may cancel and definitely won’t re-up next year. If all else fails go to the ZINIO app or webpage, All my back issues were there, so maybe bypass the MW app altogether.
The app crashes after about 90 seconds- requiring repeated reloads to make through an issue. Hardly worth subscribing!
The most recent update of this app doesn’t seen to crash anymore because it has completely locked me out of my subscription. All my back issues are gone, and no longer recognizes me as a subscriber. App dev has not resolved this yet, their instruction to restore my back issues did nothing. Not sure I will ever do a digital subscription with Zinio again. Wondering how I can get a refund of the rest of my subscription.
I still cannot access any of my MacWorld issues on my iPad. Please fix the app, or I will have to ask for a refund of my subscription.
I think I now have two paid digital subscriptions- my prior one that I couldn’t access no matter how often I logged in, and a new one that I got to see if the magazine still exists. What a ripoff.
Version 9.0.4 is billed as fixing log in issues. It doesn’t. If this keeps up, I’m going to forget to renew. I only tapped one star because the App Store won’t accept zero stars.
Still having issues with subscribing and magically no issue available. Considering Apple News even as bad as that is because these guys can’t get their app working.
6/25/19 Update to review. The new update needs a user password update. Once passing that frustrating hurdle, the app itself seems to work well. MacWorld help-line did explain what is going on, and that the app password needed to be reset by Zinio. MacWorld also sent a direct Email link to Zinio. Zinio is now managing the app. Zinio re-set my password for my user account, and now, all seems well. They initially reset the last 10 issues, and It took a while for them to update my back issues and now all seems as it should. The app gives you the option of PDF view or of the TEXT view (text — the way I’ve always looked at the app). So far, the new app hasn’t crashed on me. 4 Stars instead of 5 for the lack of instructions in the download information at the app store.
Cannot “restore” your subscription through Apple no matter how many times you try. Even deleting the app and then reinstalling it and trying to restore subscription repeatedly fails to work. Subscriber for 25 years isn’t going to resubscribe again.
I used to read this magazine a lot, but the redesigned app refuses to download any purchased magazines, despite me still paying for the subscription. When I tap the "Restore iTunes Purchases" button, nothing happens. If the app isn't fixed soon I will cancel my subscription and find a different magazine to read.
Takes your money. Then you have to navigate a maze of logging in vs. restoring purchases. None the options work (unless you’d like to “subscribe “ again). If you’re lucky enough to figure it out, everything resets the next time you open the app.
Updated the apps on my iPads and phone I had no problems reading past issues, congrats
Just like other reviewers, the latest update killed my account. I now have no access to the magazine. Their instruction to revive the account doesn’t work. When I wrote to them, they told me to take up the matter with ZINIO. If I wanted to get the magazine through Zinio, why would I purchase the subscription from MacWorld directly? Please just fix what you guys broke!
No longer have access to my subscription. I would hope that this can be fixed quickly. Very frustrating. Are these updates even tested before release? If this continues I’ll have to cancel my subscription, sad, I have subscribed since the first issue with Steve and Mac on the cover. 😟
Update: Received this from my email last night from customer service(the contact info for it was on the email I received last night with the news of the app update) “Thank you for downloading the new Not Applicable app. We understand you are keen to read your magazine so have provided you with access to the latest issues to read immediately to your account under email ID ....... Furthermore we have sent a request to the relevant department and within 24 hours your full subscription and back issues will be added to your account under the email address.........” I now have access to download and my library has returned. Zero stars. Finally got signed in and restored my issues on my iPad. The only issues the showed up are from 2012. Everything else wants me to purchase and repay for. This happened last time there was an update. Funny Apple news+ works perfectly but the app doesn’t. They get one shot at fixing this and then I’m canceling my subscription. Maybe this is why Macworld went on Apple News+, since the Zino made/managed never seems to work.
Finally got back my access to the latest issues, but now I can't download the issues and can only read them while I've got access to wi-fi? That's another negative....Come on MacWorld, get your stuff together and let us download what we've paid to access.
This tech mag breaks monthly. New updated app today...zero access now.
Can’t read an issue. Crashes every few minutes.
As an avid reader/subscriber of Macworld for 20+ years this recent evolution to the digital sphere has been abominable. You would think that such a magazine discussing evolutionary Apple products would have perfected the transportation highway from print to digital. The app continuously crashes minutes into reading my issue. This is a complaint many readers have been complaining about for months without resolve. Gaining access to my paid subscription on an iPad is difficult if not a complete failure. Further, I would prefer reading the magazine that is stored on some other server rather than being forced to download onto my devise taking valuable memory space. I do not recommend those interested in subscribing to Macworld to undertake this arduous task at the moment. I hope you are listening Customer Relations and taking these numerous complaints NOT to your boss but to the OWNERS of this magazine for their needed actions. I would prefer returning to the print edition style and pay a bit more for an annual subscription than to go through all of this. Please fix these problems or simply go out of business and let some other company succeed where you have fallen down.
I love this magazine, but am frustrated that the developers still haven’t addressed the crashing issue. Support did give me a web-based way to access the lat issue, but that's too much work. Tried to read the June edition without luck. Deciding to send subscription. Bummer because this is a great resource when it comes to everything Apple/Mac.
How can you publish articles about mac when you don’t know how to make your app work? Hire someone who knows what to do.
Macworld app on iPad crashes constantly and won’t remember where you are in magazines. Cmon Macworld
I cannot read more than a few pages of an issue before it crashes. Tried deleting app and reinstalling it. Helped for a bit, then back to crash city. 128 gig iPad Air 2 iOS 12.2.
