Macworld Digital Magazine U.S. App Reviews

Awesome app!

Great experience on iPad. It brings reading to another dimension.

Perfect

An excellent mag, brilliant price.

Good value

Good price and good information.

Poor system

Perhaps this mag is limited by the software it runs on but the inability to scale the font seems to be a big miss. One you get used to the overly simplistic navigation, its easy enough to use. I would have expected MacWorld to be more sophisticated than other mags - too much time writing about technology and not enough time investing in it perhaps? Content wise, its a great mag in either form.

Should have some useful sections

Some sections like peoples reviews would be great where products and features can be rated. Product demos and developer blogs are welcome. I would like to see some advanced tips and tricks using new mac features.

So long paper version!

Finally - an enhanced iPad version of the magazine. Looks like it has been available for a while but they recently added the access for paper copy subscribers - very nice. It appears to have everything in it that the paper copy has plus more. The links in the reviews and other nice touches save time and helps the reader explore further. The navigation is, as one person commented, very simple but, unlike the other comment, i feel that it is very effective and efficient to use. Each page is crisp and easy to look at. Nice touch on the retina display where the page is quickly displayed at a lower rendering quality. And then it quickly sharpens up. This allows you to see the content without waiting for the more detailed rendering. It makes for a very fluid page turning experience. Back to the navigation, it doesnt follow the paper copy exactly but instead takes advantage of vertical flow for articles, layered text over images on another layer tallow for text scrolling without loosing the image, and even sideways swiping to view multiple related images. My paper subscription actually just ran out. I am almost done reading the last copy on the iPad and have only looked at the paper copy for a comparison. I will be renewing my subscription again but only for the digital copy.

Mac world on iPad

What a fantastic way to learn. The magazine is loaded with insights and tips. The format is stunning and the clarity of the type and pictures thrilling. Say good bye to paper copy and hello to a magazine that continues to educate without curled up pages.

Excellent articles!

Its great to keep up with all the excitement that Apple has been creating. The articles about enterprise development is much appreciated. The company I work with (a Canadian Funeral Home) is preparing to say goodbye to its PCs and hello again to Apple. Our first computer was an Apple II in the 80s. MacWorld has been an essential resource. RR in Winnipeg.

Great

Excellent transition from print to digital!

iPad interactivity doesnt offer much...

... now you have to swipe to read the content and thats it. Also it is vert difficult to unsubcribe.

Cant download to iPad

Little disappointed! I just subscribed to the magazine. I can download this months magazine on my iPhone but not on the iPad. I followed all of their instructions if there are issues. And if you click for app support in the App Store it takes me to a 404. Hope they fix this soon. But for now its not a buy.

Good iPad version, but perfectible

This is a good, well polished, electronic version of the magazine. One aspect I find frustrating though, not to say absurd, is that many (most) articles appear in a narrow column, i.e. not making use of the real estate of the iPad screen, and forcing to scroll down much more than would be necessary. With all due respect, I dont need to see a big picture of the author of the article during the whole time I read the paper; using that half screen for text would be more appropriate. It would also be good to be able to set the font size. Sme other commenters have compared this app to a glorified PDF; actually, these few limitations make it actually worse than a PDF!

Won’t load/appear

Macworld is happy to take subscriptions money but magazines never show up. Ironic when we’re told to avoid scams.

Mac experts? But crappy software.

You would think these experts could put together a fantastic experience but this is just as simple as reading the paper magazine. Problems: -Can only read in portrait. No landscape available -Cant zoom at all. Crazy! -no interactive features. -no notice of new issue -doesnt automatically download latest issues There are more but enough for now. Just give us a fab experience. This is BORING!

Cant print or save individual articles

I typically read and rip out useful articles in print versions for easy reference. There appears to be no way that I can save a single article for follow up later. Using the share options either saves one page as a picture (useless if article is more than a page) and the rest of the options are useless.

From great mag to newsletter in one issue.

The first all-digital issue of what used to be a great print magazine is a huge disappointment. The content is lacklustre and the design is cut-and-paste-Word-document-blah. It has instantly transformed itself from an interesting and highly informative magazine into an office newsletter. The December issue even has several blank pages. Yes, totally blank. Advertisers wont like it much either since some ads run with holes where their product images and logos should appear. Theres no way of knowing if those blank pages were supposed to be ads or editorial. Ive been an avid Macworld reader since the days when the Apple LC "pizza box" made the cover. If it wasnt part of my NextIssue subscription package, Id never bother with it again. Its a shame really.

Dont optimizated..

for iPad Retina Display Fix it

Very good magazine

I used to read the printed version, I enjoy the digital edition as well.

Superb Digital Magazine

I have several digital magazine subscriptions, and this is probably the best and most enjoyable to use, making great use of the digital medium. The one-star reviews are misguided and even silly. Yes, there is no landscape mode, but who needs it? Furthermore, this is a true digital layout, not reproduction of the actual page layouts where you may want to see a double-page spread. And as for the complaint that there is no zoom, again, who needs it? This is probably the most comfortable read I know. You dont need any zoom option! Try it and youll see. I never bought the print version, so I came to this digital version without any hang-ups or preconceptions. This is an outstanding digital magazine and the subscription price is amazing. Some of these one-star reviews make you stop and wonder about the people writing them. Really.

Annoying

Now there are ads that block out the articles, with no easy way to remove them. If this is what Macworld has come to, you might as well follow up on the death of the magazine by killing off the app too.
